Aside from catching those big monster tunas and bringing you some of that coverage, we also recognize the importance of supporting the industry as a whole. You may have seen some of our promotions for the event but we finally had the chance to attend the Friends of Rollo’s 1st Annual Family Fun Benefit BBQ. The Friends of Rollo is a non-profit educational organization named after Captain James “Rollo” Heyn of the long-range sportfishing boat Royal Polaris. In honor of Captain Heyn for his years of dedication to educating young people, the foundation is devoted to sending kids on marine-awareness fishing trips. The organization has already sent 84,012 Kids fishing from all different backgrounds and demographics. It’s such an organization that develops and educates the young minds of tomorrow to appreciate not only the sport of fishing but the importance of protecting the environment for future generations.

The BBQ was held at the secluded and private Oak Canyon Park in Orange County, CA where the private lake was stocked with Cat Fish the previous week. It was a perfect location for a relaxing Sunday afternoon where there were games, shows for kids as well as the opportunity for them to fish! All the kids walked away with prizes but there were also great raffles and auctions to fundraise for this great organization. The prizes were quite impressive from complete camping gear, high quality Rods/Reels combos, tackle and even a 4 day tuna trip for 2! To top it off, the BBQ was amazing with Tri-Tip, Chicken, and a good amount of delicious sides.

We had the opportunity to mingle and enjoy the day along with take a few photos. To view the photos, please visit our facebook page! Special thanks to John Rowe from Friends of Rollo for his hospitality! Please continue to support this great organization!
